Hi! I’m excited to be one of your child’s afterschool teachers! My name is Harriet Yu. I have been teaching for about 7 years now. I was born in Taipei but came to the US when I was 2 years old. I grew up in California in sunny San Diego, and I have been living in the bay area now for over 20 years. Before teaching at Genius Academy, I have worked in real estate, investing, banking and financial planning. I have a degree in Psychology and Asian American studies from UCLA and hold a certificate to teach TESOL (Teaching English as a Second or Other Language) from UC Santa Cruz. I have been an ESL teacher for the past 5 years. I also taught English in high school in Japan on the JET program. I am fluent in speaking English and Mandarin Chinese, and I can speak a little French, Spanish and Japanese too. I’m trying to learn Korean as well, as I like watching K dramas!

My expectation for your students is that they show up to class prepared to learn with an open mind. Be kind to each other, be respectful, and most importantly, have fun! I can teach in person or online through Zoom. I look forward to meeting all of you soon!
