English Teacher

I must say I get excited when teaching elementary school-age students. These youngsters are so much fun and eager to learn! Students I have taught love to share with me about their favorite toys, interests, sports competitions, and anything else happening in their lives. I like that I can connect with them. It helps me be an effective teacher.

Prior to coming to Genius Academy, I taught G2 and G3 Language Arts and Math classes at another after-school program for eight years. I have also tutored students one-on-one. The best thing is when students are excited to come to class. I want all my students to enjoy learning. Class doesn’t have to be boring. We can have fun, yet at the same time get our work done.

This year I will be teaching the G2 and G3 Reading Comprehension classes, as well as the G6-8 Literature/Public Speaking class and supervising Study Hall. I am a former Toastmaster and competed in the Toastmasters International Speech Contest where I won my club’s contest, my area’s contest, and came in second at my division’s contest. As an Athlete Leader for Special Olympics Northern California, I frequently give speeches to schools, companies, universities, and most recently at a medical conference. You will likely find me emceeing at Special Olympics Northern California events and competitions. Additionally, I contribute articles about autism and neurodiversity to DierentBrains.org.
